Hello!
I am so excited to be entering my 16th year of teaching. I have been fortunate enough to teach in a variety of positions during my educational career. This includes: a six month teaching internship in Sweden teaching first grade (and a full year in Knoxville), serving as a literacy coach at the Central Office level (K-6 with writing emphasis), as well as an Academic Interventionist at Discovery for three years (K-6), and teaching everything from grades 1-6 as a classroom teacher.
I have included my professional online portfolio links for you...should you be interested. It was already made, so might as well share it. Right?
The Basics
Family- My son, Eli, is a 7th grader that attends Central. He attended Discovery for his elementary career and loved it. My husband is a school counselor at Lavergne Middle School. He grew up in the Philippines.
Schooling- I grew up in Los Angeles and attended a high school for gifted and high achieving students (before finishing my high school career in Tennessee- such a contrast!). Universities include University of Tennessee, Vaxjo Universitet, and Tennessee State University (ABD, doctoral program in administration and supervision).
Passions- I have a lot of them. Traveling, nutrition, rowing, long distance running, writing instruction, and my cat, Mochi. Don't ask about any of these topics, unless you want to hear about it in depth. You have been warned!
Recognition- I was District Teacher-of-the-Year during the 13-14 school year and MEA Teacher-of-the-Year prior to that. I wrote for Scholastic for a little over five years (online and as a contributor for the Parent and Child Magazine). I am a former Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Participant, which included three weeks in various school settings in and around Tokyo and Chicagasaki.
